The Duchess of Cornwall Hails UK's Vaccination Efforts, Looks Forward to Being "Reunited with Grandchildren"

As the British royals resume in-person engagements, the Duchess of Cornwall stepped out today to visit Wembley Vaccination Centre in her role as patron of the Royal Voluntary Service. Speaking about recently receiving her own first dose recently, People reports Camilla said, "It feels like the first step of freedom, I certainly felt like that after getting the vaccine. I hope you're able to be reunited with your grandchildren, I think we're all looking forward to that."

The Duchess joined RVS Volunteers and NHS Volunteer Responder Stewards supporting the UK vaccination rollout to thank them for their ongoing efforts at this crucial time. Camilla spent time with Pippa Nightingale, Chief Nurse of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and Sam Ward, Deputy CEO of the Royal Voluntary Service, who discussed their roles.

'As she spoke to volunteer Liyann Ooi, 27, Camilla told her, "Thank goodness for volunteers."

The student, who is currently working for a Masters in Health Psychology at University College London, moved to the U.K. from Malaysia in September 2020 as a Chevening Scholar and was eager to get involved with her local community. She said that because Camilla had already received what Britons colloquially call "the jab," it had provided "reassurance to those yet to have theirs."

"I have loved my time volunteering so far and meeting Her Royal Highness today really was amazing," she added.'

During a conversation with Pippa Nightingale, Camila remarked on the speed of the vaccination programme, saying, "No other country does it better." Sam Ward added, "Each and every volunteer who stepped forward to support the NHS and their community is a hero in my eyes. We truly appreciate the continued efforts of our volunteers during the pandemic and as the vaccination programme moves forward."

  1. I am glad Camilla is so involved with this program. She hasn't seen her Grandchildren in a long time, from both side of the family.
