Crown Princess Mary Celebrates 49th Birthday

Happy Friday! Crown Princess Mary of Denmark celebrates her 49th birthday today. It was confirmed she will spend the day privately with her family at Amalienborg. To mark the occasion, a lovely new photo was released of the Princess in a familiar dress.

Mary wore her gorgeous polka dot Carolina Herrera shirt-dress in the portrait. The dress features a detachable waist belt and sheer sleeves.

The Crown Princess debuted the dress in late 2019 for the Golden Days Festival. I loved the styling with a matching scarf, statement belt and elegant updo.

It comes following an interview Mary gave with DK1's Mark Stokholm about the severe challenges people are experiencing globally due to the pandemic. It coincides with Demark's 'Indsamling'. Once a year, a number of humanitarian organisations and charities come together to help people in some of the world's poorest countries achieve the UN's world goals. We know Mary's UN work is a central part of her focus, and it's more important than ever due to Covid-19.

More on the annual effort:

'Since Denmarks Indsamling was first held in February 2007, Danes have contributed more than DKK 1 billion. Money that has helped more than seven million people to a better life and a future. In 2020, the Danes collected 82 million kroner. See previously supported projects here.

Since 2014, Danmarks Indsamling has targeted all the countries that appear on the OECD's list of the world's poorest countries. This means that the NGOs also have the opportunity to start development projects in, for example, Latin America and Southeast Asia, which together with Africa house some of the world's most vulnerable population groups. Here, humanitarian organizations work to ensure basic human rights such as access to clean water, education and medical care.

The development projects are most often targeted at children in need, who in one way or another have lost hope of a future, due to eg war, persecution and natural disasters. Danmarks Indsamling works to bring hope back to the world's most vulnerable children. We do this because everyone has the right to a safe childhood.'

Mary said, "There are many children in the world who have had their lives changed due to prolonged shutdowns as a result of the corona crisis. For many of these children, school means more than education, it also means protection. Children who cannot attend school must now live a life at greater risk of violence, abuse, lack of food, prostitution, child marriage and the risk of ending up in extreme poverty. We have seen a decline in extreme poverty for many years, and now we are unfortunately seeing an increase for the first time in 22 years."
