A Family Balcony Appearance in Monaco For St. John's Day

For those of us missing traditional royal balcony appearances, there was a treat in store in Monaco yesterday when Prince Albert, Princess Charlene and their two delightful children, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella watched the annual St John's Day Festival from the balcony of the Prince's Palace.

The two-day annual event took place in accordance with strict guidelines whilst retaining core elements such as the lighting of "batafoegu" (fire of joy) and the religious ceremony in the Palatine Chapel.

The Monaco Tribune reports: "Every year, the Rock celebrates the birth of Saint John the Baptist, the prophet who announced the coming of the Messiah. For this occasion, a great bonfire – or batafoegu in Monegasque – took place in the Prince’s Palace Square, after the traditional religious ceremony in the Palatine Chapel. It coincides with the longest day of the year."

The five-year-old twins were adorable with Jacques in a suit and Gabriella in a white dress and matching headband. The children certainly favour their mother, don't they?

Charlene was elegant in a buttoned black dress with a black headband and statement red lip.

A lovely black and white photo of the family shared by the Palace.
