Dutch Royals Attend Flight MH17 Memorial in Amsterdam

King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands visited the RAI Convention Centre in Amsterdam yesterday for a memorial ceremony dedicated to the 298 people who died on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 which crashed in Ukraine in July.

The flight was en route from the Dutch capital Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and 193 of those on board were Dutch nationals. The royals were joined by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and hundreds of relatives of those who died.

Mr. Rutte summed up the sadness of those gathered, saying: "What if the plane had been late? What if I wake up and realise it was all just a dream? But there is no 'what if?' Only the harsh reality of 298 dead. They will not be forgotten."

  1. May all the departed souls rest in peace, may their families find comfort in their memories.

  2. I hate to be the person who is being politically correct, but the plane didn't crash. It was shot down.

  3. Someone I knew was on that plane, and I don't think I will ever be able to come to terms with it. He was full of laughter and life, now sadly no more. Even now, five months on, I still have days of complete sadness. Mr Rutte is right, they will not ever be forgotten.
