The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall Arrive in Colombia

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall began their four-day visit to Colombia on Tuesday night when they touched down at Bogota Airport.

The first engagement for the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall was a reception at the British ambassadorial residence, hosted by Ambassador Lindsay Croisdale-Appleby. Camilla was presented with a snakeskin handbag by fashion designer Mario Hernandez. Mr. Hernandez and his wife Olga also gave Camilla a handbag for the Duchess of Cambridge.

Charles received a Colombian national football shirt from President of the Colombian Football Federation Jaime Bedoya, and a book on the works of native artist Carlos Jacanamijoy.

Today the couple were greeted by President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos and his wife María Clemencia Rodríguez de Santos at the Presidential Palace. The visit is the result of Mr. Santos's invitation to strengthen ties between Colombia and Britain and his appeal to help his government bring a lasting peace to the country, which has suffered fifty years of armed conflict.

A large marching band paraded past the palace in honour of their guests.

Prince Charles and Mr. Santos inspected a guard of honour while the Duchess of Cornwall and Mrs. Rodríguez de Santos looked on.

The visit will examine serious issues affecting Colombia, which include the rebuilding of those parts worst affected during the upheaval and the effects of violence on the citizens of the country, with special emphasis on victims of sexual violence during the conflict.

The British government has said it will help Colombia's prosecutors deal with cases in the aftermath of a peace deal with rebels; according to official figures more than 7,000 Colombians suffered sexual attacks during the violence.

  1. Hi Charlotte,

I know a lot of people don't care for Camilla, but I like her and this cream dress is wonderful on her. I like the fact that she dresses so well of her body shape, age and occasion. This combination of dress and coat dress is one that she wears time and again and I really like it on her, especially the outfit she wore to W&K's wedding, divine!!

  2. I agree with Lauri; I am a big fan of Charles and Camila, and I think she looks simply amazing. She dresses appropriately, she knows what suits her, and she looks comfortable in her own skin, elegant, and very affable. I love the way this couple supports each other. They are obviously a good team in public and in private. I like it that she does repeat her outfits, and it is always a delight to see them. She has been a huge asset to the Prince and the Royal family at large.

  3. She is growing on me lately too. Still can't get out of my mind that she was happily having an affair with a married man (whilst she was married too). But I'm workig on it.. :)

  4. She was dating Charles BEFORE he got married. Fate set them apart... then, years and years later, and through tragedies and dark times, they managed to get together.
People would call it romantic, if thet didn't love Diana so much.
