Two Colourful Looks for Queen Maxima

We have a double helping of  Maxima today, covering both appearances by the Queen so far this week. Below we see her shaking hands with Myanmar President Thein Sein earlier today at the Eikenhorst royal residence. The Queen is receiving the President in her capacity as a special advocate of the UN Secretary General's plan for inclusive finance for development.

Maxima looked wonderful in a sleeveless vibrant pink dress with a black belt to accentuate her waist and a black cardigan thrown over her shoulders. This is an excellent way for her to incorporate her love of colour without going overboard (although I think Max can pull almost anything off).

Yesterday, Maxima met the Director General of the World Trade Organisation Roberto Azevedo and chose to repeat a Tory Burch dress.

The red silk blend dress features a floral print, round neck with slit at the chest, tie at the waist, rear pleating and long sleeves with gold-tone buttoned cuffs. It's currently sold out but was available at Farfetch until recently.

Maxima wore her hair in an elegant updo. A thumbs up for both of these looks. What do you think?

  1. I loved the color on the first dress, but the overall effect was that she left the bathroom in a hurry and got her dress caught in her pantyhose. I don't think anyone can carry that off, not even Max!

  2. When I saw that first photo I thought - "oh goodness, someone tell her she has got her dress caught up". Now I realise it was meant to be like that but I still think it looks pretty awkward!

Maxima does love her bold colours. She is quite good at pulling it off but I'm not sure about the design of that cerese dress, it almost is made to look as if the skirt is caught up by mistake! There is rather a lot of material too, certainly not a utility dress! I quite like it with the black though, just think the skirt might have been left plain.

Very important engagments. She must have to spend a fair bit of time being properly briefed for these meetings to be meaningful.

And love the statue of the horse!

  4. Oh no, poor Max's dress got caught in her pantyhose! And why did she wear black leggings with such a vibrant color? I like Max but her sense of fashion frequently leaves me shaking my head in wonder.

Thanks Charlotte for starting this blog back up again, I sure do enjoy seeing all the European Royals.

    1. Totally agree and am giggling about the panty hose comment because that is exactly what I was thinking. Also, what is with coats and sweaters hanging off her shoulders? It must be uncomfortable to constantly have to make sure it doesn't slip off. This little black sweater isn't so bad but the time she wore that huge camel colored coat. Oh no, no, no.

  5. I totally agree - the pink dress is lovely but I want to reach out and pull it down in the front!

  6. Maxima seems to always wear her dresses a size too small---but changed it wit the red one; it seemed rather baggy

  7. Love Max but not one of her best looks. Great color.

  8. I'm not crazy about the static cling look of the first dress :) but I *do* enjoy Maxima's passion for fashion. there's no other way to put it...she is brave and enjoys trying different looks.

Maxima's pink dress makes me wonder, as I often do, if there are some dresses that look great in person but simply do not photograph well.

  10. Excellent question Marie. Although for an upper class Poteno, or native of Buenos Aires, HM has a decidedly fashion forward sensibility; the ladies with whom she grew up tend to be very striking and stylish in a vastly more quiet manner.

  11. LOVE Queen Max, the bright pink doesn’t work at all. Seems as if Tory Burch is trying every design she can think of. The red dress didn’t need to be tight. She looked lovely wearing it. Anyone think Max is hiding a 4th child?
