At Columbia University on Friday, the Queen attended a seminar titled 'Children in the Age of Sustainable Development'. In her speech to the audience she spoke of the work of the World Childhood Foundation, which she established, and its ThankYou campaign, which was launched by Princess Madeleine. The campaign aims to involve young people in children's causes through social media, and to raise awareness of problems children face world wide, including homelessness, abuse and poverty.
"Through the power of partnerships, we hope to create environments where children feel safe, secure and respected; where they can grow up to reach their full potential."The Queen finished her speech saying:
"My hope is that we can work together to put children at the centre of the sustainable development agenda."The royal duo also met volunteers working with ThankYou in Washington Square Park.
