Style File: The Countess of Wessex in Winter White Coat

Welcome to the first of another series we'll be sharing with you at The Royal Digest - Style File - in which we take a look at our favourite royal look from the week and share details of pieces worn when possible. This week, we've chosen The Countess of Wessex.

The Livity School

On 22 January, Sophie officially opened The Livity School in Streatham where she met staff, students and architects involved in the project. Following a tour of the school Her Royal Highness unveiled a commemorative plaque and commented, "You have a fantastic building but it is the occupants who create the atmosphere."

Headlines from the day were firmly focused on the royal's chic ensemble.

The Countess looked stylish in a timeless white bouclé coat by Proenza Schouler. The piece retailed for £1,740 before going on sale for £522 at My Theresa. It is currently sold out (no doubt due to the Countess's appearance in the coat and the significant discount). However it remains available in limited sizes at Luisaviaroma with a 50% reduction.

The coat is described this way:

"A bouclé revolution from Proenza Schouler, bold composition ran riot on their runway this season. Cutting a contemporary figure in chalk white, the longer length and subtle flare of this coat infuses a delicate femininity into a pared-back aesthetic."

The coat features snap fastenings, flap pockets and is fully lined. I think it looked fantastic on Sophie. It isn't the first time we've seen it on her and I'm sure it won't be the last. HRH wore a black dress underneath and her hair swept back into a stylish bun.

Super sleuth Anna from HRH Countess of Wessex noted Sophie's leather clutch is by Italian brand Sophie Habsburg Design, her earrings are thought to be the £35 Diamond Hoop Earrings by Heavenly Necklaces and her black pumps are by Bruce Oldfield.

Sophie is one of the most underrated royals out there - carrying out excellent charity work and her style has matured magnificently in recent years. I hope to see more press coverage of her in the near future. What did you think of the entire look?

  1. I love this look on Sophie!! So very elegant and the fit is superb. You are right, Charlotte, her fashion as definately improved over the last several years, a "Kate effect" perhaps or maybe Sophie has really worked on finding her fashion footing. Sometimes she hits it out of the park, like today, and sometimes it's a little to tight or a little too much. I look forward to seeing more posts about her in the future.

    1. Kate-effect would be my guess. I've thought so for a while. She still plays it safe most of the time, but she has stepped out of the box in a way she didn't before. I like this coat, but a colorful silk scarf would have been a nice touch against the coat and her blonde hair.

When she first was with Edward, she was compared to Diana a lot and with her hairstyle seemed to be encouraging it I don't think it's Kate; Kate's only been around for a couple of years. I think Sophie has had a good campaign to present herself to the public, looks great for her age, and has the ear of the Queen. Not bad for the wife of the youngest son.

I agree with bluehare, I don't think Kate has anything to do with it. If anything, she is the one who introduced Kate to designers like Emilia Wickstead - remember, Issa was "designer" to Kate went before she became royalty. Sophie's style has evolved over the years and only improved. She's had access to stylists and fashion houses way way before Kate. I think that it would be unfair to label her style to be "Kate effect. "

    4. Hmm...I cannot agree. Kate has had a flair for style long before Sophie would have been in a position to guide her. :) If anything, it's been Sophie who has stepped it up on occasion since Kate became a headline royal.

  2. I enjoy reading about Sophie and am so glad -she really looks amazing in this coat etc- like Lauri from CA- I have to agree that some past fashion choices weren't the greatest but she has bumped up her game and looks very elegant and very royal.

I like Sophie's style and clothes as well...What helps Sophie in her royal duties is her past work experience in PR - it has given her boatloads of confidence and poise and it shows every time she is out & about.

  5. Sophie is her own person. If anything, I would suggest Kate's style has evolved since becoming part of the royal family - not the other way around.
