Royal Roundup: The Danish Royal Family

As we get into the swing of 2014, I'm fulfilling one of my resolutions today. Thanks to a slight schedule change I'm immensely pleased to be bringing back The Royal Digest and very much intend to keep it updated throughout the year, other commitments permitting. We begin with what I hope will become a weekly series - Royal Roundup - whereby we look at the latest news from one royal family. First up it's the Danish Royal Family!

Crown Princess Mary has been incredibly busy lately with a series of engagements and an overseas trip. On January 15th Mary visited Royal Copenhagen, a manufacturer of porcelain products, which was founded in Copenhagen in May 1775 under the patronage of Dowager Queen Juliane Marie.

Her Royal Highness inaugurated Royal Copenhagen's new head office and scholarship programme. Mary was given a tour of the new skills centre, which includes a modelling room and painting studio. Below we see Mary with scholarship recipient Allan Otte.

I thought Mary looked fantastic and her outfit was professional, sophisticated and very feminine. The lace blouse and navy knee length pencil skirt were complimented by pink earrings created by Danish designer Marianne Dulong, a pink and gold bracelet by Shamballa (with thanks to Style of Mary), a grey coat, shoes and clutch.

Last week Crown Princess Mary spent three days in Myanmar on her latest charity project. She was in the impoverished South-East Asian country to launch a new Danish-funded health care clinic that will educate women about contraception, family planning and supports HIV sufferers and young mothers. Mary was joined by Danish development minister Rasmus Helveg Petersen and the pair announced they were donating 85 million kroner to the sexual health clinic. Mary is very much renowned for her international fundraising efforts and I was very pleased to see her trip made headlines internationally.

Princess Mary said:

'Their traditions and culture create barriers to talking about sexual health, which makes it even harder for them to understand their bodies and make informed decisions about the consequences of sexual relationships. The health clinic will provide information about contraception to help women in Myanmar avoid unwanted pregnancies.'

Throughout her trip, Mary unveiled a series of looks including a pair of £40 Zara floral trousers from the Autumn 2012 Collection worn with a white blouse and brown belt. Not everyone could pull off the look but I thought Mary styled them very well.

A look at other outfits worn during the trip. Which are your favourites?

In other news Mary's other half, Crown Prince Frederik, as patron of the Danish Handball Federation Championship EURO 2014, attended the inaugural match between Denmark and Macedonia. The Prince looked delighted when Denmark won 29-21.

Queen Margrethe and Prince Consort Henrik attended the funeral of Countess Anne Dorte of Rosenberg.

Finally, we leave you with a quote from the Queen about her granddaughter Isabella :)

  3. I think Mary is the epitome of style and beauty! She has a very regular face and fine features, reminds me of a porcelain doll.

  6. As an HRH DK reader, I'm so excited that you are reviving this blog! I just love reading your posts! Plus, Princess Mary has such great style too (and often gets over-shadowed by Kate), and I'm excited to follow her wardrobe picks as well! Keep up the good work!! :)

  7. This is my favourite royal couple! I adore Frederik and Mary and their sweet children. To me Mary is the classiest royal today. I love her style. When these two got married I cried I loved his wedding speech to Mary and the deep emotion and devotion he has for her. It's true love and a Cinderella story.
